IT’S the answer to the riddle which fans of Love/Hate have been asking since pictures first emerged of badboy Darren Treacy back on the set of the hit TV show. Today is Easter Sunday, but there will be no resurrection for the hood who was taken out by Lizzie in last season’s finale.

Nearly a million viewers tuned in to see Darren’s demise in the gritty crime drama. Fans have been asking if Darren’s reappearance is part of a dream scene, a flashback or even if he survived the shooting.

Twitter and Facebook were buzzing with rumours and bookies were even offering odds on the reasons for Darren’s reappearance.

But the Sunday World can exclusively reveal that actor Robert Sheehan was brought back to shoot scenes of his character laid out in a coffin.

“All is not as it seems,” revealed an insider. “Darren will appear in the first episode of season four, but he is brown bread [dead].

“He filmed scenes of Darren laid out in a coffin. It is the big opening for the new series in the autumn.”

When pictures emerged of Robert on the set at Clontarf Hospital in Dublin nearly two weeks ago, speculation was rife that Darren survived the shooting, like he did in the last episode of the first series. In the opening scenes of series two he was pictured in a hospital bed, but producers decided the show would lose credibility if he again survived.

‘Love/Hate’ star Robert Sheehan has all but confirmed recent speculation that he will make a ‘JR-style’ return to the show.

The legions of fans of the gangland series were left devastated when gangster Darren Tracey was shot in the head in the shocking finale to Season 3.

But the heartthrob actor caused a sensation last week when he was spotted back on set of the filming of the fourth season in Clontarf, Dublin, apparently after making a miraculous recovery.

The Laois star told Maia Dunphy on RTE Radio that his return could have all the ingredients of the infamous ‘Who Shot JR?’ plotline.

“(It) wasn’t the happiest of ends at the end of the third series but with the fourth I was indeed back briefly with the ‘Love/Hate’ gang. That’s pretty much all I can say.

“Who knows? I could be the next Larry Hagman.”

‘LOVE/HATE’ has been sold to British television network Channel 5, the Irish Independent has learned.

The deal between RTE and the London-based station was lead by former TV3 head of programming Ben Frow, who is now a boss at Channel 5.

RTE had been holding negotiations with a number of British networks and the UK is seen as one of the most important international markets to sell its wares.

While the show has been sold to many countries around the world, the British deal, along with selling the rights in the US, represents a major coup for RTE.
